Fishing is good and the weather is sunny and warm with cool nights right now, so come on out and enjoy the splendor of the Gila! The sun is shining and the hummingbirds and many other species of bird are returning. Also seeing a lot of Fawns right now. Bring your cameras!

Don't forget the fishing license, gasoline, and cash in Silver City.

Our Store is now open Saturday 9-8, Sunday 10-7 (no liquor sales before noon on Sun). We are open during the week roughly 11-7.

Yes, normally you can have campfires here. Wind permitting. However we are currently under Stage 1 fire restrictions, which means you can only have a fire in a proper forestry fire ring. You can use propane, but not charcoal right now. 

The Lake was stocked in the 2nd week of May.  Fishing Report:

Lake Roberts: Fishing was fairly good using worms, Power Bait (especially Peach), spinners and salmon eggs for trout. Fishing was fair using worms for catfish.  Reports of nice Bass using worms and spinners. Anglers reported best results in the morning hours

Catch of the week at Lake Roberts: On May 17, Keith Miller caught an 8-pound flathead catfish. He was using a worm.

The fire known as the "Silver Fire" is burning around the town of Kingston, which is located on hwy 152, and is 50 miles from here. the name is unfortunate, it's not near Silver City. we are not experiencing any smoke issues from this fire.

Be aware of ROAD CLOSURES:  Hwy 152 from San Lorenzo to Hillsboro. New Mexico Highway 152 eastbound and westbound from 35 miles East of Bayard at mile marker 16 to 10 miles West of Hillsboro at mile marker 40 has been closed  for the safety of the public and firefighters out on the fire. For more information: www.nmroads.com Trail #79 has also been closed.

Come travel "The Trail of the Mountain Spirits" and visit the historical Mimbres Valley, Lake Roberts, the Gila River, Gila Hot Springs, Pinos Altos, and Silver City NM areas. 

Gila History

The area is rich in history from the ancient Indians such as the Mimbres, who's highly sought after black and white pottery can still be found marking burial sites throughout the Gila, to The Cliff Dwellings  where Geronimo was born. Mangos Colorados (Red Sleeves) and his son in law, Cochise roamed these mountains as well.  The U.S. Cavalry built the old wagon trail, now route 15, to hunt Geronimo unsuccessfully (read more).

Gila Wildlife

The Lake Roberts Cabin's & General store is located in the Gila National Forest which is noted for it's spectacular scenery ranging from high cool mountains with aspen and douglas fir to warm semi-arid lowlands with juniper, oak and cactus. 

The Gila is a truly special place. Life abounds everywhere and this area is simply teeming with birds, flowers and plants, trees, animals, reptiles and amphibians, fish, bats and insects. Immerse yourself in nature. This undeveloped natural country can refresh the human spirit simply by its grandeur, purity, and remoteness. The Gila National Forest includes more wilderness than any other national forest in the Southwest.  Come see our beautiful landscapes and wildlife.

Experience the Continental Divide Trail,  which is a premier national scenic trail that stretches from the Mexican border to the Canadian border.

Cliff Dwellings National Monument is near by where visitors are still welcome to walk inside the dwellings.
